Where to check Spotify stream counts

Spotify shows two different numbers and they get mixed up constantly. Play count is how many times one track has been played in total. Monthly listeners is how many unique accounts listened to the artist in the last 28 days. One counts plays, the other counts people.

Track play counts

Open an album or a single in the desktop app or on your phone. Next to each track title there is a number. That is the total number of plays since the track was released. The web player shows the same column.

The number is visible on open.spotify.com too, so you do not need an account to look. It is not live, it refreshes a few times a day.

• A play counts once it passes 30 seconds. Shorter listens are not counted.
• Repeat listens from the same person each count separately.
• Plays flagged as artificial are removed later, which is why a count can occasionally go down.

Monthly listeners

The artist page header shows a "monthly listeners" line. That is the number of unique accounts that played at least one track by the artist in the last 28 days. Someone who listens 500 times in a month still counts as one.

What the artist sees

Spotify for Artists gives the account owner the detail: country breakdown, playlist sources, saves, how often listeners come back. Those screens are private, which is why no third-party site can report those figures.

Which number popradar uses

popradar tracks the two public numbers on artist pages: Spotify monthly listeners and Spotify followers. They are read once a day and stored raw, with no weighting. The chart points show the day each reading was taken.
